Not a Resolution...Just a Thought

I don't like resolutions. I can't quite put my finger on why but does it matter? The results should be enough to make us shun the whole practice. In fact I don't remember the last time someone declared a resolution that wasn't met with a bunch of eye rolls!
Throughout my life, I have found the most effective "resolutions" were those that were decided upon with very little fanfare. That guy at work who made a big show of tossing his smokes, claiming, "I have smoked my last cigarette!" would almost certainly breakdown in the next three days. But the girl from accounting who secretly trimmed down to her desired new dress size was the one who would always surprise folks. Her success was as evident in her smile as it was anywhere else! It feels good to reach a goal.
That's the way to approach 2018! Big swings and big changes are tough to make happen. Pick a couple small things you would like to change about your food habit. And always leave a little cheat day. Then start on a limited workout plan that won't leave you dead in the water. At the end of two weeks, you will have laundry that needs to be done, a checkbook the needs to be balanced, and the dog will need a bath. Need I add to the list of reasons to skip your workout? Of course not! But an exhausted body might be the worst thing to have on the list! Do not overdo the workout regimen until you have your time commitment down pat!!
Creating a successful workout plan has one key component. Success! That means that body weight bench presses, or 250 Ab crunch goals and strict all-kale diets are not your friend. Make reasonable changes that you can succeed at. You will feel great! And it will inspire you to add the next change. Before you know it, you may crush one of those 250 rep Ab sets. But you will have done it because you committed to making time for your health and well-being!
I wish you the best in the upcoming year! And remember, summer will be here before you know it! If you want a tip or a little help reaching your goal, don't hesitate to drop me a line!
Happy New Year!
